Tsarin EPC tsari ne mai matuƙar ci gaba, cikakke kuma mai rikitarwa, wanda cikakken sunansa shine Lambar Samfurin Lantarki. Fasahar EPC tana da nufin gina "Intanet na Abubuwa" ta hanyar dandamalin Intanet, ta amfani da Gano mitar rediyo(RFID), sadarwa ta bayanai mara waya da sauran fasahohi don cimma raba bayanai a ainihin lokaci na abubuwan duniya. EPC na da nufin kafa ƙa'idar gano bayanai ta duniya da buɗewa ga kowane samfuri, da kuma cimma bin diddigin da bin diddigin samfuri ɗaya a duk duniya, don inganta matakin kula da samar da kayayyaki yadda ya kamata da kuma rage farashin kayayyaki.
A shekarar 1999, wani farfesa mai hazaka a Cibiyar Fasaha ta Massachusetts ya gabatar da manufar hanyar sadarwa ta bude EPC, wacce aka aiwatar cikin nasara a cikin Kungiyar Barcode ta Duniya (EAN.UCC), Procter & Gamble (P&G), Coca-Cola, Wal-Mart, FedEx, Nestle, British Telecom SUN, PHILIPS, Tare da goyon bayan kamfanoni 83 na kasa da kasa kamar IBM, an fara wannan shirin ci gaba. A ranar 1 ga Nuwamba, 2003, Kungiyar Lambobin Labarai ta Duniya (EAN-UCC) ta karbi tallafin duniya da aikace-aikacen EPC kuma ta kafa Cibiyar Tallafawa Kayayyakin Lantarki ta Duniya (EPC Global), inda ta nuna cewa EPC ta shiga matakin tallatawa da aikace-aikacen duniya a hukumance. A wancan lokacin, kasashe masu tasowa kamar Turai, Amurka, da Japan duk sun yi iya kokarinsu don inganta aikace-aikacen alamun lantarki wadanda suka dace da fasahar EPC. Cibiyar Lambobin Labarai ta China (ANCC) ita ce kawai hukumar da aka ba wa izinin wakilci ta EPC Global a China.
Tsarin Intanet na EPC ya kamata ya ƙunshi lambobin EPC, alamun EPC da masu karanta RFID, tsarin middleware, sabar ƙudurin sunan abu (ONS), da kuma ayyukan bayanai na EPC don cimma Intanet na Abubuwa na Duniya. Lambobin EPCsuna da isasshen ikon yin rubutu, daga jimlar yawan jama'ar duniya zuwa jimlar adadin hatsin shinkafa a duniya, lambobin EPC suna da isasshen sarari don gano duk waɗannan abubuwan. Domin tabbatar da keɓancewar lambobin EPC, EPC Global tana ba da lambobin EPC na ƙasa ta hanyar ƙungiyoyin yin rubutu na duniya kuma tana kafa tsarin gudanarwa masu dacewa.
Lambar EPC ta ƙunshi lambar sigar, sarrafa sunan yankin samfura, ɓangaren rarraba samfura da lambar serial. A halin yanzu, nau'ikan ɓoye bayanai da ake amfani da su a cikin tsarin EPC sun haɗa da bit 64, bit 96 da bit 256. Misali, ana iya sanya lambar EPC mai bit 96 ga kamfanoni miliyan 268, kowannensu yana da nau'ikan samfura miliyan 16 da lambobin samfura biliyan 68 ga kowane rukuni. Lambobin byte 96 wataƙila za su kasance mafi sauƙin amfani, domin suna biyan buƙatun bayanai kuma suna da tsada kaɗan.
Wadanne dokoki ne EPC ya kamata ta bi?
Dole ne EPC ta bi ƙa'idodi masu zuwa:
1. Na duniya baki ɗaya, a buɗe kuma tsaka tsaki.
2. Ba a yarda da mallakar gidaje ba dangane da haƙƙin mallakar fasaha.
3.Alamun RFIDda kuma masu karatu masu ƙarancin farashi da kuma aiki mai yawa.
4. Kiyaye Lakabin RFIDkamar yadda zai yiwu kuma a ajiye bayanan ID a cikin hanyar sadarwa.
An raba lambar EPC zuwa sassa huɗu, wanda ya ƙunshi jerin lambobi, waɗanda za su iya gano mai samarwa, samfur, ma'ana, da lambar serial na wani abu na musamman. EPC ita ce kawai bayanin da aka adana a cikin alamar RFID, wanda zai iya kiyaye ƙarancin farashin alamar RFID, kuma adadin bayanai masu ƙarfi marasa iyaka na iya sa alamar ta sami sassauci sosai. Baya ga ikonta na gano abubuwa tare da lambobin yau da kullun na duniya, tana iya samar da ƙarin bayani game da samfura ta hanyar hanyar sadarwa ta lambar samfurin lantarki, kamar asali, tarihin samfura, da sauransu. Waɗannan bayanan suna taka muhimmiyar rawa a cikin bin diddigin tarihi na takamaiman samfura a cikin sarkar samar da kayayyaki.
